UCF Student Working to Conserve Endangered ‘Playboy’ Bunnies

Thanks to the Daily Bunny for alerting me to this very cool story from the University of Central Florida.

The wild Hefneri bunny

The wild Hefneri bunny

Turns out Hugh Hefner has done some great work trying to protect species of bunnies–and even has one named after him! Hefneri, the most recently recognized subspecies of the marsh rabbit, is small with short, dark brown fur and a grayish-white belly. Discovered in 1984, the subspecies was named in honor of Hefner after his organization donated money to support fieldwork on the rabbits. Neat!
